Dahlonega half eagles of this quality were bringing in the $30,000 range a decade ago and while pieces of this caliber are currently somewhat out of favor, I think they represent one of the best values in the entire upper-end coin market. 1839-O $2.50 PCGS MS62 Mintage: 17,781 Variety One: high date, wide fraction. PCGS has graded exactly seven 1839-O quarter eagles in MS62 and I believe that this represents four or five actual coins. The last three MS62 1839-O quarter eagles that have sold at Heritage auctions have brought $17,250, $19,262 and $19,550 respectively and all three were in NGC holders. Trends jumps to $32,500 in MS63 and a properly graded coin in a 63 holder is not currently available.
